The 2018 Eat Out Mercedes-Benz Restaurant Awards will be announced at a Gala Lunch at GrandWest on Sunday 18 November. In a media statement Eat Out has announced details of the prestigious event.
For the second year running Eat Out will announce its Top 30 nominee restaurant list. At the Awards event the countdown from the ranking of 20 to 11 will precede the announcement of South Africa’s Top 10 Restaurants. Eat Out has announced that Chef Margot Janse is the judging convenor, supported by an anonymous panel of judges. Food will be evaluated ‘slightly more’ in the judging this year, as was introduced last year. The Head Chef of the country’s top restaurant will drive a Mercedes-Benz for a year.
The 2018 Eat Out Mercedes-Benz Restaurant Awards will recognise the Eat Out S.Pellegrino and Acqua Panna Chef of the Year, the Eat Out Retail Capital New Restaurant of the Year, the Eat Out Rising Star, Eat Out Graham Beck Chefs’ Chef Award, the Eat Out Diners Club Service Excellence Award, the Eat Out Wine Service Award, the Eat Out John Psillos Award for Outstanding Contribution to Service, the Eat Out Lannice Snyman Lifetime Achievement Award, the Eat Out Woolworths Sustainability Award, and the Eat Out Style Award.
New Media MD Aileen Lamb says about the Eat Out Awards: ‘Honouring the extraordinary talent in South Africa is what Eat Out is all about. This awards ceremony is where we get to celebrate our world-class chefs and the magnificent work being done in the food industry as a whole. Our partnership with Mercedes-Benz, which is also dedicated to recognising excellence and innovation, makes our journey together even more inspiring.’ New Media publishes Eat Out magazine, a listing of the country’s 500 best restaurants.
The Awards event changes back to a sit-down multi-course lunch, a different format having been trialed last year. Canapés and Graham Beck MCC will be served on arrival.
