This year we would like to wish our readers a Merry Christmas and blessed Festive days with something different: two German TV commercials for Germany’s largest supermarket chain Edeka!
One would not have thought that a supermarket chain could have TV commercials created for it with such non-hardsell as Edeka has, and have received such amazing viewership not only in Germany but around the world too.
The ‘Heimkommen‘ (Coming Home) TV ad uses pure emotion to bring home the message that Christmas is about family togetherness. Right at the end one sees a Christmas table with a feast dinner, the ingredients obviously having been bought at Edeka, but without sell, concluding with the Edeka logo. The YouTube video has been viewed more than 44 million times.
The ‘Kassensymphonie‘ (Cash Register Symphony) TV commercial is more Edeka-branded, but is still not hardsell, with a clever rendition of ‘Jingle Bells’ created through tapping numbers on the tills of an Edeka outlet. The TV commercial has more than 33 million views to date.
May the joy of Christmas touch each family, and may you travel safely in this festive period.
