Jade Pearl Boutique Sweet Service Award; Sour Service Award goes to Enterprise and Tiger Brands!

The Sweet Service Award goes to the Jade Pearl Boutique in Stellenbosch, and its staff member Caitlin van Heerden, for reading about the assault by Graham Goble at Artscape, resulting in one of my strings of pearls breaking. She invited me to have the pearls restrung. As I was heading to Franschhoek two days later, I dropped them off in the morning, and collected them later that day, ready to wear again.

The Sour Service Award goes to Enterprise, and its holding company Tiger Brands, for its initial reluctance in taking ownership of the outbreak of the listeriosis contamination and the resultant death of more than 180 persons nationally, as well as in neighbouring countries. I heard the broadcast of a radio interview with the Tiger Brands CEO Lawrence MacDougall, who denied that his company was the cause of the listeriosis outbreak: ‘There is no direct link between any of the deaths and our products’ he told journalists, according to a report by Daily Maverick. He also refused to apologize on behalf of his company. Since then, the company has had a rethink, and has gone on a proactive recall of all Enterprise products, with refunds offered for partially used and unused products at supermarkets.
