The Sweet Service Award goes to Kirsten Goss jewelers in the Silo District in the Waterfront, and its staff member Karen Schwarz. Karen arrived back in the store, after I had spent a few minutes there, my first visit there. She said ‘Dotti’ to me, and I first thought that I had misheard her, it being the name of one of my sisters. I must have looked at her in disbelief, and then she added our surname. I was finished, not thinking that I look similar to my sister. My sister has shopped there before, and Karen said that our faces look similar, and hence she could identify me as a ‘von Ulmenstein’. It is the most outstanding service moment I have ever experienced. I saw an Insta Crown there, and fell in love with it, asking Karen for a quotation to have one made. Immediately she offered to lend it to me on appro, and I wore it for the celebration of my first year of dancing at La Parada Constantia Nek this past Sunday. I have been blown away by the excellent service by Karen. Her colleague Misqah waited for me until I could get to her yesterday evening, a few minutes after their closing time, returning from Hermanus, to return the crown, and to pick up a signet ring which I had made. Misqah offered me a paid-for parking ticket proactively, as a further service.
The Sour Service Award goes to Charles Greig jewellers in the V&A Waterfront. I had bought both my tanzanite rings at the jewellery store some years ago, and wanted to spoil myself with a third one, to complement the two rings I already wear. After getting through the security, I was assisted by a gentleman sitting nearest the door, and he took me to a next desk. I explained what I wanted, and showed him my rings, and he returned with a tray of sapphire rings! I corrected him in pointing out that they were tanzanite stones! He went back to look for their tanzanite eternity rings, but they did not have any! He did not offer the service of having a matching one made, so I left, very disappointed, and found a suitable ring at another Waterfront jewelry store nearby.
