The Sweet Service Award goes to the Langeberg Municipality, and to its staff member Kobus specifically, for repairing a stolen DB board at the Wahnfried theatre in McGregor, within a few hours of the theft being reported to the municipality. The award nomination comes from Wahnfried owner Michael MacKenzie.
The Sour Service Award goes to Woolworths in the V&A Waterfront, for its poor service in the Lingerie and Customer Service departments. On Christmas Eve I tried to exchange an item for a different size, and was told that they only had one size of it available. Chantal the friendly supervisor told me that they would order a smaller size from their central city stock room, that it would arrive later in the day, and that her colleague Tersa would call me to let me know when I could fetch it. I did not hear from the store. I called three days later and was told by a friendly Cynthia that the smaller size had arrived, and that she would hold it for me. I had to go to Customer Services to swop the two items, and was told that a R10 refund would be due to me. I no longer had the slip, as Chantal had called the stock room with the details on the slip. I was issued a gift card without discussion with me, the store usually reversing refunds to one’s credit card. The cashier did not explain anything to me, and I was told that it is company policy! She demanded my surname and contact details, even though these are not required when one purchases an item. A very arrogant man came to the till when I asked for a Manager, and rudely told me that I always provide these details for a refund, when one returns an item, despite me telling him that this is not correct. The entire transaction left a sour un-Christmassy taste!
