Lucky number seven for Restaurant JAN in Nice, in being awarded a Michelin one Star!

For the seventh year running, Restaurant JAN in Nice has been awarded one Michelin star. The restaurant owned by Chef Jan-Hendrik van der Westhuizen is the first South African owned restaurant to achieve this international recognition.

More recently the Restaurant Interlude in West Sussex in the UK, owned by Benguela Cove in Hermanus owner Penny Streeter and headed up by Chef Jean Delport, has also gained a Michelin one star, for the third year running.

Michelin describes Restaurant JAN as follows:

A chef on private yachts in Monaco then a reporter and photographer for a major magazine, the young South African, Jan Hendrik, has already had several lives. In his intimate and romantic little restaurant near the port, he cooks creative and contemporary cuisine, much to the delight of customers passing through the French Riviera!’

I have been fortunate to have dined at Restaurant JAN five times.  I rate Restaurant JAN as the best international restaurant I have had the pleasure to dine at, with its focus on South African cuisine served in a French restaurant.  My last dining experience at Restaurant JAN was in 2018:

SA Top restaurant JAN in Nice receives one Michelin star accolade in France for the fourth year running!

Surprisingly Restaurant JAN and Chef Jan-Hendrik have not yet announced the latest 2022 Michelin one Star achievement.

Congratulations to Chef Jan-Hendrik, Head Chef Scott Armstrong, and the Restaurant JAN team, doing South Africa proud!
