Tomorrow the Netball World Cup bounces off in Cape Town, inside the Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC). It is the first time that the Netball World Cup will be held in Africa in its 60 year history. It is the 16th Netball World Cup, and will be held until 6 August. The theme is ‘Letsatsi’, meaning sun.

Founding countries of the International Federation of Netball Associations included South Africa, Australia, New Zealand, England, and the West Indies. The World Cup is held every four years.

Participating netball teams this year are from Australia, Tonga, Zimbabwe, Fiji, England, Malawi, Scotland, Barbados, New Zealand, Uganda, Trinidad & Tobago, Singapore, Jamaica, Wales, Sri Lanka, and South Africa.

Attendance at the Netball World Cup may be affected by ticket prices. At R700 each they are deemed to be expensive.

Yesterday a free five-hour concert was held in the Fan Park outside the CTICC , featuring local musicians, including Kurt Darren and GoodLuck. Daily entertainment for the whole family is planned in the Fan Park

Numerous roads around the CTICC have been closed, and will remain so until 6 August. Traffic delays can be expected within the city.
