I attended the opening of the 2022 Decorex Africa exhibition at the Cape Town International Convention Centre yesterday, at which Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis spoke and cut the official opening ribbon.
Decorex Africa last exhibited in Cape Town three years ago, due the Lockdown, which commenced in March 2020.
A total of 300 exhibitors are participating in Decorex Africa in Cape Town over the ‘long weekend’, until Sunday.
Mayor Hill-Lewis said that the past three years have hit the Events industry badly, and congratulated the Decorex organisers for ‘sticking it through’ and for reopening. His wife asked if she could join him at Decorex, not attending many of his speaking obligations, he shared. He said that Cape Town was named the world’s leading exhibition and events destination last year. He stated that he has written to President Cyril Ramaphosa to request that the last Covid restrictions be lifted, to allow better attendance at events like Decorex and the rugby on Saturday.
I have the greatest respect for the Mayor. We met about a month ago, when he joined my Camps Bay Clean Litter Community clean up in Camps Bay, achieving a record turn-out. Afterwards I managed to chat with him. I was most impressed that he recognised me at the event yesterday, nodded a hello, and that we could chat.
The media release received from Decorex Africa shared that the Company had to adapt, rethink and redefine its exhibition, creating a ‘dynamically reimagined Decorex Africa’, exhibiting in both Cape Town and Johannesburg. The exhibition has been running for the past three decades. For the first time Decorex Africa introduces Summits, with one-day events at which local and international designers will speak about their perspectives on how to reimagine the world. The exhibition company has partnered with 100% Design South Africa.
Decorex Africa Cape Town exhibitors include Belgotex, bloc outdoor, Caesarstone, Conde Nast, easylife kitchens, Haldane, Houtlander, Mobelli, and Pedersen + Lennard.
A Samsung Bespoke Cooking Theatre sees cooking demonstrations from Chef Veronica of The Silo Hotel, Chef Jocelyn from Food Jams, Chef Ciska of Madame Baker, and Chefs Mmabatho and Sisipho of Emazulwini Restaurant.
