Not to be confused with a private home in which one can drink Brandy, the new ‘Brandy Homes‘ are in fact Brandy producers in the Cape Winelands, the Karoo, and Northern Cape, which have been designed to make its visitors ‘sit back, relax, and learn all there is to know about Brandy‘. The ‘Brandy Homes‘ are an initiative created by the South African Brandy Foundation, allowing Brandy lovers to enjoy the Brandy experience at its source, i.e. ‘The place where a Brandy is born’, says Brandy Foundation Director Christelle Reade-Jahn.
‘Brandy Homes‘ offer varied experience, such as food and Brandy pairing, or meeting the distiller, or seeing the cellars. South African brandies, of which the Brandy Foundation brands are some of the leading in our country, regularly win world best award at the International Wine & Spirit Competition in London.
In the Cape Winelands the ‘Brandy Homes‘ include producers Backsberg, Kaapzicht, KWV Wine Emporium, KWV Sensorium, Laborie, Louiesenhof, Oude Molen, Oude Wellington, Tokara, Uitkyk, Van Ryn’s, Upland Organic Estate, and Avontuur, the Brandy producers concentrated in Paarl, Wellington, Stellenbosch, and Somerset West.
Brandy producers in the Karoo, operating as ‘Brandy Homes‘ too, are Klipdrift in Robertson, Kingna in Montagu, Barrydale Cellar, Boplaas in Cradock, Grundheim in Oudtshoorn, Mons Ruber in De Rust, and Bergerac near Touws River. Near Upington in the Northern Cape is Bezalel Wine and Brandy Estate, the only ‘Brandy Home‘ in that province.
