imageThe judges for the Prescient Chardonnay Report 2015 found that the sixty Chardonnays that they evaluated were so superb, that they acknowledged all 29 wines that scored 90 and more points.

The 5th Chardonnay Report 90+ score winners event was held at MOMA on Buitengracht Street, a spacious if not noisy gallery filled with works of art, forming the background. Jacqueline Lahoud of Winemag.co.za welcomed the guests, a mix of winemakers and writers. She announced that, with the permission of their sponsor Prescient, they had agreed to recognize all outstanding top 29 Chardonnays, the bulk of which were 2014 vintages. She said that everyone who was present were passionate about wines. She thanked the judges Christian Eedes, with Roland Peens and James Pietersen of Wine Cellar. She also congratulated her business partner Christian on their first anniversary of Winemag.co.za

Craig Mockford from Prescient, a multinational financial services image
provider, said it was the first time that his company has sponsored a wine competition, and he hoped that they could broaden their client base. He said that Chardonnay is the ‘liquid gold of wines’, and expressed his personal love for Chardonnay.

Christian said that participation was by invitation, and sixty wines were selected. He said that they were blown away by the Chardonnays they tasted, saying that the category ‘has never looked better’. It is a imagestrong category, and he said that our country’s Chardonnay is ‘world class’! Christian said that for many winemakers 2014 was a difficult vintage, but for Chardonnay it was outstanding! Chardonnay represents the seventh most planted variety, making up 7% of our country’s vineyards.

Public tastings of the top Chardonnays will be held at the Radisson Blu Hotel Gautrain in Johannesburg on 4 November, and in Cape Town at the Radisson Blu Hotel Waterfront on 11 November. The 29 Top Chardonnays scoring 90 and more points are the following:
