The Sweet Service Award goes to Utopia Cape Town, which is in a non-Loadshedding zone in De Waterkant, my friend and I being able to complete our Instagram account challenge with perfect lighting, receiving fantastic service from Bryan, and celebrating our challenge accomplishment.
The Sour Service Award goes to Misfits by Ideas Cartel in Green Point, a restaurant, wine shop, bar, and co-working space all in one, which has The Foundry Hotel linked to it too. On Wednesday a friend and I met at Misfits for a catch up as well as to assist me in unlinking my various Instagram accounts. We ordered pizzas, and beverages, and I assumed that the building would have a generator, given that Loadshedding was due at 18h00. Ideas Cartel specializes in co-working spaces, allowing small businesses or individuals to rent a space which offers WiFi, coffee and tea, a bar, a restaurant, and meeting facilities. It was perfect for what we needed, I thought, except that it does not have a generator! The waiter did not warn us and on the dot 18h00 the lights went out, and a single candle was brought to our table, inadequate to light up the whole restaurant, and of no use to us in needing power for WiFi. I had ordered a ham and mushroom pizza, which was overpowered by garlic, so it had to be redone, which was possible in their wood-fired pizza oven. The GM Precious knew we were there, but did not come to greet us or explain to us. We had to pay in the dark, received no invoice, and were not guided to the street with a torch, given the darkness. The outside seating area has solar-powered lighting but the restaurant has done nothing to light candles throughout or to get a generator, six months after opening! We left and went to Utopia.
