Utopia Cape Town launches new Tasting Menu, with Vegetarian and Vegan options too!

Utopia Cape Town has spoilt Capetonians with its incredible value for money Tasting Menus in the past two years, having become the talk of the town in offering its value Tasting Menus in its 15th floor location, with magnificent views over the city and its icons, and onto Cape Town Stadium, Lion’s Head, the Harbour, and Table Mountain specifically.

Utopia Cape Town launched not only a new Meat/Fish Tasting Menu last week, but added a Vegetarian as well as a Vegan option too. For the first time in two years it has increased its Tasting Menu prices to R245, still offering excellent value.

Booking well in advance is advised.

Lovers of the Utopia Springbok and Spicy Prawns will rejoice that the former is making a comeback and that the very popular latter will remain on the Tasting Menu.  The Ceviche is also back on the menu. The cost of the Tasting Menu with Wine Pairing is R380, 100 ml of wine served with each of the four courses and a tot of sweet wine served with the dessert.

I joined a tasting of the new standard and Vegetarian Tasting Menus with the Utopia waiters, and liked the new dishes added to the menu, a polenta dish being a very pleasant surprise. Head Chef Dennis Luke and Pastry Chef Nate introduced each of  the dishes to us.

 

The new Utopia Meat/Fish Tasting Menu is the following (Photograph above):

  1. Lime-dressed Ceviche, with red onion, olive oil, red pepper, radish, and parsley
  2. Spicy Prawns, sauteed with olive oil, with chilli, garlic, butter, and white wine
  3. BBQ grilled Springbok loin, roasted figs, vanilla cauliflower purée, and topped with tempura crumb.
  4. Harissa-marinated Beef, pea purée, mint oil, burnt baby tomato,  and thyme jus.
  5. Baked double thick yoghurt, strawberry rosewater gel, strawberry and vanilla sorbet, topped with cocoa soil.

 

The Utopia Vegetarian Tasting Menu offers the following dishes:

  1. Pickled Beetroot, celery, goat cheese mousse, olive oil, and topped with herb crumb
  2. Parsley Risotto, with shiitake mushrooms, Parmesan, tomato concasse, and toasted pine nuts
  3. Crisp fried sweet potato croquette, chilli tomato jam, feta cheese, and herb olive oil.
  4. Creamy herb polenta, semi-dried tomato, grilled corn, and butternut purée
  5. Baked double thick yoghurt, strawberry rosewater gel, strawberry and vanilla sorbet, topped with cocoa soil.

 

The new Vegan Tasting Menu is as follows:

  1.  Sweetcorn veloutè, herb oil, and topped with fried pumpkin seeds.
  2. Roast Butternut salad, with cranberries, lettuce, cucumber, and honey mustard dressing
  3. Creamy mushroom risotto, with white wine, finished with herbs, seasoning and olive oil.
  4. Grilled aubergine, with teriyaki, fresh chives and olive oil.
  5. Trio of Sorbets
