The Transnet National Ports Authority has announced that it has awarded the status of ‘Preferred Bidder‘ for the Cape Town cruise-liner Terminal to the V&A Waterfront.
The V&A Waterfront is set to invest R 179 million into the development of the Terminal, and will operate it for a twenty-year period. The Terminal will be located at E Berth in the Duncan Dock of the Cape Town Port, with shops and hospitality services surrounding it.
Western Cape Minister of Economic Opportunities Alan Winde welcomed the news, saying that Cruise Liner Tourism brings in 10000 visitors to Cape Town every year, who spend R 1000 per day on average whilst in the city. The economic benefit of Cruise Line Tourism for the Western Cape is R200 million per year.
After many delays, the announcement is welcomed in finally getting Cape Town’s Cruise Line industry on the map!
