Villa 47 Sweet Service and Maxwoods Framers Sour Service Awards!

Villa 47The Sweet Service Award goes to Villa 47 and its waiter Dean Moss and GM Peter Douglas. I was lucky enough to have Dean as the waiter at our table on the first time I ate there with friends, and he has served me each time of the about 20 times that I have eaten there since it opened 10 weeks ago. The dry cappuccino arrives at the table before I can think of ordering it, and he has a stapler in his apron pocket to staple the bill and credit card slip. Peter is the most friendly restaurant person I know, and nothing is too much trouble for him.  He has trained his staff to offer the best service in Cape Town.  He has given me his cell number so that I can book a table for lunch or dinner, given that they are so busy, having become one of Cape Town’s most popular restaurants.

FramesThe Sour Service Award goes to Maxwoods Framers and Gilders, and its staff member Joss Burger in particular.  After receiving excellent service from Robin Reisenberger a year ago, I had the misfortune to deal with Joss, who over-promised and under-delivered twice in respect of the framing of a drawing.I handed it in on 19 May, and he promised that it would be completed in two weeks.  After 3 weeks I had to call to follow up, and he told me that he had been ill. He is not the only staff member working there however!  When I came to pay and collect, he told me that it would be too large to fit it in my car, and that the staff could deliver it the following day. I asked him to call, so that I had an idea of the estimated time of delivery, which he had indicated as late afternoon.  At this point I had planned to award the company a Sweet Service Award.  At about 14h00 I still had not heard from him, so I called.  He seemed vague, told me that he did not want to bother me with calling me.  At that time my doorbell rang, but I did not trust the characters I saw via the security video.  They called while I was on the line to Joss, and did not leave a message.  When I called back the call went to voicemail. They did not return my call.  Joss became completely pedantic, going around in circles, and sounding complicated in a new arrangement for the delivery.  I insisted on receiving it on the promised day!  Instead of getting off the line so that he could call his staff to turn around to return to me, he went on and on!  I finally received the delivery 90 minutes later, accompanied by rudeness from the staf!
