* The crayfish season closed at the end of the Easter weekend, kicking off an educational campaign by the City of Cape Town’s Marine and Environmental Law Enforcement Unit to promote compliance with the Marine Living Resources Act. The seaworthiness of boats and certification of skippers was also checked, as was the minimum size and quantity of rock lobster caught.
* The first ever export of Pinotage grapes from our country to the USA has arrived, sold into the market by suppliers Gino Pinto Inc. The grape shipment has sold out.
* SA Tourism and National Geographic Channel have teamed up to create a video reflecting the life of the late Nelson Mandela, with photographer Pablo Corral Vega visiting Qunu, and Robben Island, amongst others The film will be aired on the Channel in the USA, South America, Europe, and Asia.
* Passengers and tour operators in other African countries are angry about the new visa regulation for travel to or via Johannesburg, given its cost and the inconvenience of applying for it. Their reaction signals a threat to Johannesburg as the travel hub for Africa, especially as African countries have agreed to make travel on the continent as easy as possible.
* Tutored Tastings of 12 wines paired with canapés will be held by Bouchard Finalyson Cellar Master Peter Finlayson. Tomorrow it will be offered at Hildebrand Ristorante, on 17 June in Stellenbosch, on 23 June in Hermanus at the wine estate’s cellar in the Hemel-en-Aarde Valley, and on 4 November in Cape Town again.
