* The Good Food & Wine Show will be brought to Mumbai in India for the first year this year, after 16 years of running the show in Cape Town, Durban, and Johannesburg, show organisers Fiero Milano have announced.
* Respected UK wine writer and judge Jamie Goode recently spent five days in Franschhoek, his longest stay in the wine valley. Asking ‘So, a pivotal question is whether or not Franschhoek has an identity that is worth preserving, from a wine perspective. After five days, my conclusion would have to be that there is something special about the valley, and that this is something worth fighting for. And if you get a chance to visit this magical place, make sure you ask to try wines from the valley at cellar doors and in restaurants, to get the authentic Franschhoek experience’, a wonderful endorsement for this wine village!
* Another fund-raising lunch for the Cape Leopard Trust will be held this year, again at Leopard’s Leap in Franschhoek, on 15 August. Chefs Pieter de Jager of Leopard’s Leap, Michelle Theron of Pierneef á La Motte, Christo Pretorius of the Twelve Apostles & Spa, and Floris Smith of Bushmanskloof will prepare the lunch. An auction will raise funds for the Trust, and a Dylan Lewis leopard sculpture will be one of the items offered for sale. Last year organisers Opulent Living raised R630000 for the Trust. * Wellington wine estate Doolhof has launched a duo of Single Vineyard wines, a 2012 Cabernet Franc and a 2013 Pinotage, forming part of the Doolhof Signatures wine range. Both wines are available at R129 from the cellar door. (received via media release from Waterford Communications)
* Chef Adele Grewar has been appointed as Head Chef at Overture, seven years after she worked at the restaurant as an intern, and then was given full-time employment, to become Chef Bertus’ right-hand in the kitchen. For a year she traveled to Australia, working at top restaurants Blackpool and Bridge Room, and has just returned to the Overture appointment. (received via media release from Overture)
