*   Despite the Rand reaching its lowest level ever to the Pound, at just over R20, and weakening further against the Dollar, no positive impact of the exchange rate is visible in terms of tourism enquiries from the UK and the USA!

*   SA Tourism CEO Thulani Nzimi has advised the tourism industry attending the annual conference of the Southern African Tourism Services Association (SATSA) that it should focus on the impact of the visa regulations on job creation and employment rather than focus on loss of income, and present such information credibly to the Government!

*   A WORLD CLASS House has been created at Roodebloem Studios in Cape Town, to become ‘a gathering of global icons and authorities from the sphere of fine spirits under one roof for 10 days’ for the Bartender of the Year competition being held in the Mother City. The best bartenders from around the world will create the best drinks with the world’s best spirits.  Bulleit Bourbon, Johnnie Walker Blue Label, Tanqueray gin, Ketel One vodka, and Don Julio Tequila will be on the cocktail mix menu. Tickets costing R180 can be bought for a WORLD CLASS House experience, of which R80 can be used to buy drinks. (received via media release from Communication Services Africa)

*  Proposed hefty decreases in airport tariffs gazetted by the Department of Transport will render the Airports Company of South Africa (ACSA) short of monies to repay the costs of the airport upgrades done for the 2010 World Cup.

*   Grande Provence will host a Wine & Dine Collaboration on Friday evening (21 August), the six course dinner being paired with red blends from Grande Provence, Warwick, Hermanuspietersfontein, and  Joostenberg. Cost is R525. (received via e-mail from Grande Provence)

  1. The exchange rate is brilliant for we Brits. The downside is the ever increasing air fares, despite the drop in fuel prices. With the withdrawal of SAA & Virgin from the LHR-CPT route has given BA carte blanche to increase their fares. SAA needs to be privatised ASAP.
