*   Ladysmith Black Mambazo shared a Grammy with the Gypsy Kings for Best World Music last night, for its live album ‘Singing for Peace around the world’.  Their album is dedicated to the late Nelson Mandela, and a percentage of sales will go to the Nelson Mandela Childrens’ Fund.

*   Bruce Springsteen is ‘The Boss’ was the unanimous feedback on Social Media in reaction to his fantastic first ever concert on South African soil, held at the Bellville Velodrome.  He paid tribute to the late Nelson Mandela, and praised the ‘miracle’ peaceful transformation in our country.

*  German beer brewers have requested that their government refrain from fracking for shale gas, to keep the water for the production of their beers pure and uncontaminated.

*   Affluent American travellers use Google in the main to seek accommodation and other travel requirements.  Value for money is a major search criterion, especially for accommodation.  Search engines, online advertisements, and e-mail promotions are the most influential in communicating with this target group.  Social Media is somewhat less important.  Recommendations from family, colleagues, and friends are equally important.  Magazines play a small role as a travel influencer! Last minute bookings via smartphones are increasing.  Travel videos are increasingly viewed.   Loyalty programs can influence all travel related decision making for this segment.

*   The Peninsula All-Suites Hotel in Sea Point is hosting a 5-course dinner, paired with the wines of MAN Vintners, on Thursday evening. Cost is R225 inclusive of wines.  (received via media release from Communication Services Africa)
