Notorious Chef Conrad Gallagher opens new restaurant in St Francis Bay, after leaving trail of debt in SA, USA and Ireland!

 

It’s not often that an Irish or any other international newspaper would take an interest in the opening of a restaurant in a holiday town in South Africa, or contact me about this news, requesting my reaction. The Irish Sun did so last week, and published its story two days ago.

I have written about Chef Conrad Gallagher’s  shenanigans before, when it became known that he did not pay his rental in the beautiful Breda Street Café Chic building in Cape Town, nor his staff, nor cake supplier Charly’s Bakery. He left in a hurry, only to return to Port Elizabeth, with a similar manner of escaping payment, leaving unpaid debt. Continue reading →

Franschhoek Chef represents Africa in 2021 S. Pellegrino Young Chef of the Year

 

Marcus Gericke, Head Chef at Le Coin Français in Franschhoek, is representing Africa and the Middle East in the 2021 S. Pellegrino Young Chef of the Year competition taking place in October.

Chef Marcus faces stiff competition from eleven other regions’ chefs,  and voting has opened to choose the world’s best Young Chef for 2021. The winner will be announced on 28 – 30 October, during the Grand Finale of the S.Pellegrino Young Chef Academy 2021.  A Fine Dining Livers Food for Thought Award 2021 can be won by one of the Young Chef Finalists too.  Continue reading →

SA Tourism body fumes over UK’s refusal to remove SA from its Red List!

 

The UK removed a number of countries, including Kenya, Pakistan, Egypt, and The Maldives, from its Red List last week, but South Africa was not one the nine countries benefiting from the travel relaxation, reports Daily Maverick. 

SA Tourism Services Association (SATSA) CEO David Frost spoke out harshly, describing the decision by the UK to not include our country as ‘scandalous and completely unacceptable’. Continue reading →

Top 16 women Chefs recognised by Michelin for International Women’s Day, Farewell to only Top SA Woman Chef! !

 

Yesterday was International Women’s Day, and the Michelin Guide has paid tribute to the Top 16 Women Chefs in the world which own and head up the kitchens of one-, two-, and three-star Michelin Restaurants.

It is also a good opportunity to pay a final tribute to our country’s only Top 10 Chef Chantel Dartnall, who is soon to close down her Restaurant Mosaic outside Pretoria.

Women Chefs have always been in the minority in general, but also at the top echelon of restaurant ownership.
