The Western Cape Government and President Ramaphosa have welcomed the announcement by the local Biovac Institute that it is to commence manufacturing the Pfizer-BioNTECH Covid-19 vaccine in Cape Town from next year, for distribution to 55 countries on the African continent, a boost to the economy of the Cape.
Biovac is expected to manufacture 100 million vaccine doses annually.
Wesgro is actively working on attracting cruise liners to Cape Town, and has proudly announced the booked arrival of 83 cruise liners before the end of this year. The local cruise season is set to begin in October.
Last year it launched Cruise Cape Town, a collaboration between a number of role players such as Western Cape Department of Economic Development and Tourism (DEDAT); the City of Cape Town (CoCT); V&A Waterfront; Transnet National Ports Authority (TNPA); the South African Maritime Safety Authority (SAMSA); and Wesgro. September has traditionally become Tourism Month, starting with Spring Day on 1 September. While the weather is not playing along for visitors at the moment, it is heartening to see the Western Cape Province and Wesgro working together to invite South Africans to visit the Cape, launching its #WeAreOpen’ marketing campaign today.
Coinciding with the start of Tourism Month is the reopening of the Table Mountain Aerial Cableway, as well as the Two Oceans Aquarium. A host of museums throughout the province have opened too. Continue reading →
