The Cape and therefore South Africa has garnered most top Restaurant awards in Africa at the World Culinary Awards 2022. The winners were announced in Dubai last night.
La Colombe in Constantia was named Africa’s Best Restaurant 2022, while Utopia Cape Town received the honour of being named Africa’s Best Rooftop Restaurant 2022. It is the second year running for both restaurants to win their respective categories. Continue reading →
I spontaneously dropped in at the new Cypriot Ouzeri restaurant on Wale Street last night, and learnt about Cypriot food, about its owner Chef Nick Charalambous, and tasted dishes from Greece and Cyprus I’d never heard of before.
Arriving at 18h00, with no one else present, the hostess at the door told me that they are fully booked, and was happy to send me on my way. I told her that I wasn’t planning to spend the whole evening there, and did she have a short gap for me. In March The Telegraph announced that Cape Town is the greatest city in the world to visit right now. Last week it ranked Cape Town as the third greatest city on Earth, scoring 549 out of 810 points.
Utilising a list of 50 Top city contenders, its annual reader survey, and input from its Travel writers, it ranked the list of cities on a number of factors, including the number of museums, galleries, UNESCO heritage sites, Michelin restaurants, 5-star hotels, beaches, air cleanliness, transport, tourist attractions, legalized same-gender marriage, and LGBTQ+ community safety. Additional points went to cities with a symphony orchestra, and a metro system.
The World Culinary Awards has announced its 2021 winners, globally, and by continent. For Africa, all six the Restaurant Award categories were won by South African Restaurants, with four of these from the Cape, and three in Cape Town. Continue reading →
