The World Culinary Awards has announced its 2021 winners, globally, and by continent. For Africa, all six the Restaurant Award categories were won by South African Restaurants, with four of these from the Cape, and three in Cape Town.

The nominees in each category were announced in September:

The list of 2021 Africa winners is the following:

#   Africa’s Best Restaurant 2021: La Colombe, Cape Town

#.  Africa’s Best Fine Dining Hotel Restaurant 2021: Qunu at Saxon Hotel, Villa, and Spa, Johannesburg

#.  Africa’s Best Hotel Restaurant 2021: Qunu at Saxon Hotel, Villa, and Spa, Johannesburg

#   Africa’s Best Landmark Restaurant 2021: Wolfgat, Paternoster

#  Africa’s Best New Restaurant 2021: Chef’s Warehouse at Tintswalo Atlantic

#   Africa’s Best Rooftop Restaurant 2021:  Utopia Cape Town

#   Africa’s Best Culinary Destination 2021: South Africa

#   Africa’s Best Culinary Festival 2021: EatDrinkFestival, Nigeria

#   Africa’s Best Training Institution 2021: Institute of  Culinary Arts, Stellenbosch

 

Russell Zieff, GM of Utopia Cape Town, said he and his team are delighted in Utopia winning this accolade, given its outstanding views of  Cape Town icons from its 15th floor restaurant in De Waterkant. ‘We are grateful to our staff for their hard work in serving our diners, and thank our diners for voting for us in these World Culinary Awards’, he said. Utopia Cape Town was one of three Finalists in Africa’s Best Rooftop Restaurant category.

Congratulations to all the 2021 World Culinary Award winners, which include Noma in Cooenhagen in winning World’s Best Restaurant 2021, BiBo Doha won World’s  Best New Restaurant, and Cé La Vi at The Address Sky View in Dubai won World’s Best Rooftop Restaurant 2021.
