The Sweet Service Award goes to Maxwood’s Framers&Gilders and its manager Robin Reisenberger, who was very generous in assisting me in ‘unframing’ a painting which I took with me to the UK for my son. He was able to remove the frame on the same day, find a cardboard roll for me to put it into, and to not charge me a cent, despite not having been a customer there for about 15 years! Restaurant Review: Boschendal The Werf Restaurant expensive farm foraged food, not yet perfect!
In December I visited Boschendal Farm, to try their new Deli, and had been fortunate to be shown around the revitalised wine estate by Events Manager Aldo du Plessis and Chef Christiaan Campbell. The highlight of what was to come was the new The Werf Restaurant, to be established in the transformed building in which the Buffet used to be served. My expectations of the restaurant were therefore high, and the disappointment great after my lunch there ten days ago.
As it was the Franschhoek Literary Festival weekend, and I expected guests to check-in, I called ahead to make a reservation for an early 12h00 lunch. I was surprised that on a Wednesday morning the phone to the restaurant was not answered, and that one had to leave a message, the answering machine informing one that the restaurant is open from Wednesdays – Sundays. Franschhoek Literary Festival Sweet Service and Protea Hotel Knysna Quays Sour Service Awards!
The Sweet Service Award goes to the Franschhoek Literary Festival, for another excellent weekend bringing 5000 visitors to the village for two or more days, boosting accommodation establishments, restaurants and coffee shops, wine estates, and retail outlets. We received our first 2016 booking two hours after the 2015 Festival had closed, a demonstration of its success. It also brought a lovely concert series by Christopher Duigan to the village, as well as an excellent bassoon concert to La Motte. Continue reading →
