Corona Virus Pandemic: What is happening at the World’s 50 Best Restaurants?

 

I took a walk through Instagram today, to get an idea of what the top ten chefs and restaurants of the World’s 50 Best Restaurants List are dong right now, many are lucky enough to be getting ready to open up for service again, while others remain closed for sit-down Service, and are cooking for their communities.

The World’s 50 Best Restaurant awards will not be held in 2020, having been scheduled to take place in Antwerp last week. The awards have been postponed to 2021. In our country Eat Out has announced that it too will postpone its Award ceremony.

The Test Kitchen retains its position as Best in Africa on 2019 World’s 50 Best Restaurant list, Mirazur in Menton the number one in 2019 restaurant!

In Singapore today The Test Kitchen moved from 50th position last year to number 44 on the prestigious World’s 50 Best Restaurant list, and was recognised as the Best in Africa. Mirazur in Menton was named the World’s 50 Best top restaurant, not without controversy surrounding a significant change in the rules regarding the top spot this year. The 18th ‘truly global’ ceremony of the Awards was women-dominated, to make up for their past under-representation.  Continue reading →

Africa and The Test Kitchen scrapes back onto 2018 World’s 50 Best Restaurant List!

After a year of not having an African restaurant on the World’s 50 Best Restaurant list, The Test Kitchen In Cape Town has done our continent proud in scraping in at number 50 at the gala awards ceremony held in Bilboa in Spain this evening. The restaurant was praised for its emphasis on waterless cooking, giving the water scarcity in Cape Town. Last year the restaurant fell to 63rd position, when its arrogance in charging astronomically for lunch service, and for the presence of Chef Luke Dale-Roberts, led to its downfall. 

La Colombe made it onto the 51 -100 List, at number 73 last year, but has fallen right off the list this year, a karmic reaction to its involvement in restaurant politics, which was already evident in its slide at the Eat Out Awards in November last year.  Continue reading →

Tumultuous 2017 World’s 50 Best Restaurants dishes up many surprises, Eleven Madison Park number one restaurant in the world!

In an exciting ceremony live streamed from Melbourne at midday, Eleven Madison Park was named as the best World’s 50 Best Restaurant, an accolade it last achieved seven years ago. A number of exciting restaurant rankings are reflected in the 2017 World’s 50 Best Restaurant list. I have been fortunate to eat at some of the World’s 50 Best Restaurants in New York, London, and in France, in the past ten months. Our reviews of some of these follow below. Continue reading →
