The Cape Argus has reported that the City of Cape Town may have overpaid more than R300000 on Cape Town hosting World Design Capital 2014 to International Council of Societies of Industrial Design, the organisation which coordinates and awards the biennial World Design Capital host cities.
The cost to the City of Cape Town and its ratepayers for the honour of having been elected as World Design Capital 2014 was R1,5 million, payable in three instalments of €150000 each. It is about three months ago that I popped in at Waterkloof outside Somerset West for a spontaneous lunch on a Sunday, just before the Eat Out Awards Gala Dinner in November. I have long been impressed with the magnificent plating by Chef Gregory Czarnecki, which he has posted on Facebook regularly, and found a restaurant with perfection as far as the
kitchen goes, but sadly lacking on service, feeling like service sabotage of the good work done by the chefs!

The V&A Waterfront has completely transformed what was previously the Blue Shed near the V&A Market on the Wharf, renaming it Watershed (a corny name which tries to be clever, but it does not reflect at all what is inside the building), and creating a showcase of 168 crafters, designers, and more under one roof.
I was invited to attend the official opening of Watershed on
