Corona Lockdown Gratitude 🙏

#grateful for a smooth flowing day; for a good breakfast at Botlierskop, with a beautiful yellow free range egg cheese omelet; for a careful drive to Knysna, with so many speed cameras and traps; for checking in at Turbine Hotel on Thesen Hotel, but our rooms taking another two hours to become available, so we went on a little walk on the island, the shops not much different to what I remember from a last visit at least 5 years ago; for bumping into Markus Färbinger, former owner of Ile de Pain Continue reading →

SŸN Pop-Up Proudly South African in its Heritage Day Lunch Tasting Menu, presents a taste of what is to come when the new restaurant opens on 1 November!

Since my return from a three month trip to escape our winter, my number one newly-opened restaurant on my list to visit in the Cape was SŸN, the pop-up having opened whilst I was away, and headed by Chefs Rikku Ó’Donnchü and Warwick King, formerly of Gåte restaurant at Quoin Rock. The one-day special Heritage Day Menu (at R690) was the perfect opportunity to taste and see what these two creative chefs and their team have come up with since setting up on their own, initially as a Pop-up before they open their new restaurant on 1 November. September explodes with new Restaurant Openings in Cape Town and Winelands!

After a quiet August as far as restaurant openings in Cape Town and the Winelands are concerned, September is seeing a number of new restaurants opening between now and the end of the month.

No new restaurants open in Cape Town and Winelands, iconic The Tasting Room closes down in Franschhoek : May 2017!

It would appear that there were no new restaurant openings in Cape Town and the Winelands during April. Iconic restaurant The Tasting Room at Le Quartier Français closed it doors at the end of April, after many years of operation under the guidance of Chef Margot Janse.  We update information about newly opened and closed restaurants continuously, and welcome such news.
