A first taste of Chef Jan-Hendrik’s KLEIN JAN at Tswalu Private Game Reserve!

 

The likelihood of Capetonians experiencing Restaurant KLEIN JAN in the Tswalu Private Game Reserve, the newest restaurant in the JAN Collection by Chef Jan-Hendrik van der Westhuizen, is small, unless one is lucky enough to be Jo Pentz, whose daughter Jess is a chef at the new restaurant.

Jo has given me permission to post some of her photographs, mainly of the interior. I am still missing seeing information and photographs of the dishes served at KLEIN JAN.

Chef Jan-Hendrik van der Westhuizen’s new KLEIN JAN Restaurant at Tswalu Kalahari opens its doors for a first peek inside!

 

In the latest issue of SARIE KOS (Summer 2020), the reader receives a detailed introduction to the new KLEIN JAN restaurant which Chef Jan-Hendrik van der Westhuizen, of Michelin one-star restaurant in Nice, plans to open in November 2020 at Tswalu Private Game Reserve in the Kalahari Desert. Honest Chocolate at next stage of its ethical and artisanal evolution!

imageLast night I attended an interesting group discussion about chocolate, and Honest Chocolate in particular, at their Honest Chocolate Café on Wale Street. It demonstrated that the brand of artisanal chocolate has evolved in the four years since its launch, and that it cares enough to conduct market research to establish what chocolate lovers like and dislike about the brand.

*   From 1 February wine estates in the Cape Town municipal area, which applies to Somerset West too despite the wine estates there belonging to the Stellenbosch Wine Routes, may no longer sell ‘bottled wines’ on Sundays.  Wine farms may apply to sell bottled wines from 11h00 – 18h00 on Sundays.

*  Former American Vice-President and climate activist Al Gore is to visit South Africa in March, to spread the word for the Climate Reality Project about climate change and to train volunteer ‘climate leaders‘ to spread the word locally, reports The New Age. 

*   The IMF has forecast global economic growth at 3,7%, upping the rate from its October 2013 forecast.  South Africa’s growth rate is forecast to be 2,8% this year. Weaknesses in our economy are highlighted as labour issues, the disparity between employed and unemployed, and increasing government debt.
