Franschhoek relaunches Cap Classique Route, celebrates with Festival 1 – 4 September!

 

Franschhoek launched a Cap Classique Route a number of years ago.  On Thursday this week the Route will be relaunched, coinciding with Cap Classique Day on 1 September.

The relaunched Cap Classique Route will be celebrated with a four day festival, from 1 – 4 September. Each of 19 Cap Classique producing wine estates are inviting bubbly lovers to their cellars, to taste their excellent bubblies and to experience special events.  Continue reading →

Tokara wins most awards at 2017 Winemag 10 Year Old Wine Awards at vintage Magica Roma!

Yesterday I attended the Winemag.co.za 10 Year Wine Awards at Magica Roma in Pinelands, and 19 wines (six white wines, ten red wines, and three fortified wines) scored 90 points or more. Tokara won the most awards, with three of the 19 awards collected by its GM Karl Lambour. Tokara Elgin Sauvignon Blanc 2007 and Nuy Muscadel 2007 were the highest scoring wines, at 94 points out of 100.  Continue reading →

Waterford Estate 2012 judged tops in Christian Eedes Cabernet Sauvignon Report 2015!

Cab Sav Report Waterford winemaker 2On Thursday afternoon we were invited to attend the annual presentation of the results of the fourth Christian Eedes Cabernet Sauvignon Report, held at Burrata at an unusual 15h30 start time.  Thirteen wines were scored at 90 or more points out of 100, and Waterford Cabernet Sauvignon 2012 was rated the top, out of 60 invited entries.

BLANKBottle wins inaugural Wine Label Design Awards Grand Prix!

WineLabel Banner Whale CottageLast night the inaugural Wine Label Design Awards, sponsored by Rotolabel, were hosted by Winemag.co.za at Beau Constantia, a relatively unknown wine estate very close to Constantia Nek, with a most beautiful view over the Constantia Valley.

We were served a welcome drink of Villiera Tradition Brut MCC, and welcome water, it being a very hot day.  I sat outside, to catch some of the cool breeze, and chatted to Wendy Appelbaum of DeMorgenzon, and Adam Mason of Marvelous.  Attendees were mainly related to award winning wine labels, with some wine writers in attendance too.
