City of Cape Town hands over City Hall to Parliament for its State of the Nation Address!

 

Following a fire over two days early this month, the Parliament Buildings have become unusable for the presentation of the President’s State of the Nation Address on 10 February, and the debate which follows.

The ceremonial gilted key which was used for the inauguration of the City Hall 117 years ago was handed to the representative of Parliament,  its Speaker Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula today.

New Mandela memorial tapestry welcomes passengers to Cape Town!

Mandela Day celebrates Madiba’s link to Western Cape!

Nelon MandelaMandela Day will be celebrated around the world today, commemorating the birth-date of the late Nelson Mandela. The Western Cape will be celebrating the important date too.

Amnesty International has announced that it plans to display a large tapestry, to be called ‘Flying Madiba’, in honour of the late Nelson Mandela in the International Arrivals Hall at Cape Town International.

The tapestry is still being made by Atelier Pinton in Aubusson in France, and measures 6 x 3 meters, as a partnership between Amnesty International and Cape Town International, with the support of the Nelson Mandela Foundation.
