Franschhoek relaunches Cap Classique Route, celebrates with Festival 1 – 4 September!

 

Franschhoek launched a Cap Classique Route a number of years ago.  On Thursday this week the Route will be relaunched, coinciding with Cap Classique Day on 1 September.

The relaunched Cap Classique Route will be celebrated with a four day festival, from 1 – 4 September. Each of 19 Cap Classique producing wine estates are inviting bubbly lovers to their cellars, to taste their excellent bubblies and to experience special events.  Continue reading →

40th edition of Platter’s by Diners Club International 2020 South African Wine Guide launched, with a record of 125 5-star wines!

On Friday evening I attended the launch of the 40th edition of the Diners Club International 2020 South African Wine Guide, at the Table Bay Hotel in the Waterfront, an event that is pretty much the same in format every year, yet was different this year, in the interest of making the event shorter.   

More than 8000 wines from more than 900 producers were rated for the 2020 Platter’s Wine Guide edition. Of the 125 5-star wines awarded, 26 went to Chenin Blanc brands, 18 to Shiraz/Syrah, and 11 to Chardonnay brands.

Neil Ellis and Rianie Strydom Cabernet Sauvignons co-winners in Prescient Cabernet Sauvignon Report 2017!

Yesterday the 2017 Winemag.co.za Prescient Cabernet Sauvignon Report awards were presented at the colorful The Stack, a well attended function, and offering good lighting for photography. Winemag goes to great lengths to find interesting venues to host its awards. It is the sixth Cabernet Sauvignon Report presented by Winemag.

The Harrow at Little Bedwyn: one Michelin star for 10 years, SA wine supporter!

imageI met Chef Roger Jones and his charming wife Sue at 96 Winery Road earlier this year, when Chef Roger cooked his Tasting Menu, the first meal I had eaten prepared by a one star Michelin star restaurant chef.
