Top 16 women Chefs recognised by Michelin for International Women’s Day, Farewell to only Top SA Woman Chef! !

 

Yesterday was International Women’s Day, and the Michelin Guide has paid tribute to the Top 16 Women Chefs in the world which own and head up the kitchens of one-, two-, and three-star Michelin Restaurants.

It is also a good opportunity to pay a final tribute to our country’s only Top 10 Chef Chantel Dartnall, who is soon to close down her Restaurant Mosaic outside Pretoria.

Women Chefs have always been in the minority in general, but also at the top echelon of restaurant ownership.

Terroir launches its fresh and saucy new Spring menu at Kleine Zalze!

imageYesterday I tried the new Spring menu of Chef Michael Broughton of Terroir on Kleine Zalze estate. The dishes are refreshing, and each dish is characterized by Chef Michael’s love for distinctive sauces.

The invitation to lunch at Terroir had come in winter, Manley Communications inviting me to try Terroir’s winter small plate main course menu. I do not get to Stellenbosch that often, having been in Franschhoek more often, and the one time that I could make the lunch the restaurant was closed for its winter break. The Test KitchenCondé Nast Traveler has ranked Cape Town as the third Best Food City in the World in its Readers’ Choice Awards 2014.  It follows hot on the heels of Spanish San Sebastián and Paris, and beat Florence, Rome, Tokyo, Hong Kong, Singapore, Barcelona, Quebec, Sydney, Vancouver, Montreal, Lyon, Bologna, Kyoto, Vienna, Budapest, Madrid, and Melbourne.
