Restaurant Week Dinner at Gigi Rooftop, Gorgeous George Hotel, sadly not all gorgeous!

In writing about Restaurant Week and a client’s participation in it, I saw the offer of Gigi Rooftop at the Gorgeous George Hotel on St George’s Mall in town, and encouraged my friend Gary Peterson to join me.

Despite its name, Restaurant Week is a month-long eating extravaganza available at more than 100 hotels at very generous packages, from R245 for a 2-course Lunch and R295 for a 3-course Dinner.

During Restaurant Week in October Gorgeous George is offering 2 courses for weekday Lunch at R245, and R325 for a 3-course Dinner. Continue reading →

Corona Gratitude 🙏

#Grateful for the rain which fell on and off today, lapped up by the vegetable and flower garden, catching me unawares when I did a quick walk to Maison J to get croissants 🥐, getting sopping wet but it was worth every drop in gifting Camps Bay with a beautiful rainbow 🌈 over Bali Bay; for Stuart Bailey coming to try to help me on his laptop with my Amazon job application; for the walk through the city centre, rediscovering it as a Tourist Guide, barely recognizing it, it being so quiet and so many business doors closed; for a indulgent Hot Chocolate at Honest Chocolate, nice and warm inside on this very cold 14C day; for collecting my tourist Guide card from the Western Cape Dept of Economic Affairs & Tourism on St George’s Mall, hardly recognizable without any stalls, looking like a European city pedestrian lane without any pedestrians 😱; for celebrating the two month battle of becoming officially registered as a Tourist Guide with an excellent lunch at Villa 47; for doing the Discovery Health Check at Clicks Glengariff Road 😱; for the assistance by Johan Prins and Bradley Moore to try to get the Amazon application completed; for getting into my warm bed already; and for being happy and healthy. 🙏💙 Continue reading →

City of Cape Town takes action against refugees at Greenmarket Square, all back to normal!

As a Tourist Guide I have had the unpleasant task of showing tourists the unsightly, smelly, and sad settlement of about 600 African refugees that had developed over four months around Greenmarket Square, outside the Central Methodist Church, and the historic Town House building which houses the Michaelis Art Collection. Yesterday the City of Cape Town’s Law Enforcement Department took action in encouraging the refugees to leave, after it had won a court case and followed the process which had been prescribed. Gorgeous George Hotel and its GiGi Rooftop Restaurant & Bar simply…Gorgeous, bowled over by the design, differentness!

How does one summarise Cape Town’s newest trendy hotspot that is a 32 bedroom Hotel, a rooftop bar with a resident mixologist, and a restaurant with Chef Guy Bennett at the helm, located in an area in which such an offering is not expected, that is simply gorgeous? The Gorgeous George Hotel, and with it the GiGi Rooftop Restaurant and Bar, will bring the Cape Town city centre alive again, an area that has not seen any innovation in quite a while.
