The Sweet Service Award goes to Twitter, which sent a celebratory message for our 5th Tweetversary earlier this week. In our five years we have Tweeted more than 41000 Tweets, and have enjoyed the ability to share short bytes of information. Whilst I was fascinated with the medium in early days, and felt an obsession to read every Tweet in the feed, and enjoyed the informative role and the humour of many of them, this is no longer possible due to greater work pressure and greater boredom with the repetitiveness of Tweets, the hard sell of some of them, and the abuse many of them contain.
The Sour Service Award goes to Hostgator, our American website server, which went down for nine hours a few weeks ago, without warning to website owners. The useful LiveChat facility was so overloaded that one had to wait for more than half an hour before receiving a reply, and then the writer on the other side was not particularly helpful in not being able to predict how long the problem would persist. We were referred to a forum of other affected parties, but this was not useful either! Two hours after working again, the website went down for another, without warning nor explanation!
