Welmoed launches two Pinot varietals!

SV_Food Pairing_05PinotNoirWelmoed, part of Stellenbosch Vineyards, has launched two new wine varieties, a Pinot Grigio 2015, and a Pinot Noir 2014.

The new wines are described as follows:

  • ‘Welmoed Pinot Grigio – a fresh, easy-drinking wine with the perfect balance of melon and lime aromas on the nose that follow through to a crisp and light finish on the palate.
  • Welmoed Pinot Noir – exudes flavours of red fruit and spice, with a velvet finish on the palate. Hints of oak aromas complement this well-balanced wine that shows great potential to age beautifully’.

The two new Pinot wines are well priced at R50 each.  As Bistro 13 is based at Stellenbosch Vineyards, Chef Nic vanSV_Food Pairing_03PinotNoir Wyk has developed an ideal pairing for each wine: smoked mackerel, chorizo, pickled fennel, and baby potato salad paired with the Pinot Grigio (top left) ; and smoked venison carpaccio with sweet and sour poached pear, green beans, and toasted hazelnuts could be paired with the new Pinot Noir.

Why Pinot Grigio I wonder. It is one of the most unimaganative white wine varieties. It’s often marketed as easy drinking in the UK but Chenin usually beats it hands down.,

    • The media release does not explain Lisa, was a very thin one. Will check.

Can only think grapes available, or to create something different.
