The Sweet Service Award goes to the Plettenberg Bay Police, and specifically Constables Clue Barnard and Edwin Smith. Quick reaction by a neighbour Johan Kruger, with Susan Theron of Bay Holiday Homes, in observing toilets illegally being removed from my house in Plettenberg Bay, contacting me (whilst I was coincidentally on my way to Plett) to check the validity of the action, and then calling the security company we use, led to all the security operators in Plett as well as the police arriving speedily. Susan kept in touch with me over the rest of my 3 hour journey to Plett, warning me that my house had been completely stripped of every fitting, all wiring, geysers, downlighters, and all furniture. The police arrested the perpetrators, who led them to the mastermind, and he was arrested as well. With the assistance of the police the bulk of the stolen items were recovered from the house of the mastermind, Johan taking them to safe storage elsewhere. Johan organised that various suppliers come for quotes, to restore the house to its previous status as quickly as possible.
The Sour Service Award goes to Patty Butterworth of Plettenberg Bay, who has been looking after the keys to our house in Plett when we are not there. She had delegated the responsibility, of handing a full set of keys of the house to estate agents for viewing with clients and to receive them back, to her husband Dr Grant Butterworth’s secretary Avril Leonie. When I called Patty to collect my keys, she said that she only had keys for one room. I went to see Avril, and she was most defensive about why the bulk of the room keys had disappeared whilst being in her care, having been found in the drawer of one of our stolen cupboard units found in the house of the mastermind! I communicated Avril’s poor attitude to Patty by sms, who rudely replied that she did not want anything to do with the keys anymore, despite having been responsible for the loss of the keys, not explaining how they had landed in the hands of the mastermind!
