Airbnb is on an amazing growth trajectory, set to double the number of bed nights booked this year to 80 million, after seven years of operation. The sharing accommodation platform claims to have 1,5 million rental listings around the world .
A lot has been written already about the effect that Airbnb has on the hotel industry, and we have written on this blog how Sydney hotels are under threat due to Airbnb. Excessive accommodation price increases one would associate with major events, such as the recent visit by the Pope in the USA, did not happen to the extent that the industry would have expected due to supply and demand, as Airbnb enhanced supply, therefore keeping price hikes under control.
