The new Helix ‘twist to open cork’ was launched at CapeWine 2015 last week, an international collaboration between Amorim cork and glass bottle manufacturer O-I.
The glass bottles have been designed with an internal thread in its neck, and the cork is re-usable, the research having taken four years. The research evaluated the effect of the new twist cork, and found that taste, aroma, and colour were not affected by the new cork over a 26 month test period. Alternative stoppers such as plastic and metal were found to cause cork taint and to be inconsistent in terms of quality.
Packaged as a new development at CapeWine 2015, Helix in fact was launched at Vinexpo in Bordeaux two years ago!
Vinimark is the first user of the cork locally, for its Krone Chardonnay Pinot Noir 2015.
