Arcade Resto-Bar to open on Bree Street!

imageMeeting a friend for coffee yesterday morning, I noticed a new-looking establishment about to open on Bree Street, with the Arcade name above the door. Co-owner Marco Picone was kind enough to share some information about the new Arcade Resto-Bar, which opens on Bree Street on Monday.

It appears that Marco has links to the local company Soft Coffee Holdings, which is re-introducing Hard Rock Cafés in our country, the opening of the Cape Town outlet being planned for the V&A Waterfront next year.

Marco, with co-owner and Chef Niki Reschke, plan to make Arcade imagethe ‘corner local’, at which one can enjoy ‘old school healthy and hearty‘ lunch, dinners, and drinks. Foods to be served are hamburgers, pizza, salads, schnitzel, and Prego rolls, while beverages include cocktails, draught beers, and craft beers. Jameson is a partner of the restaurant. The bar area looks impressive, its back wall being clad with copper. The copper decor touch is continued in the light fittings too. Leather banquettes are still to be installed. The restaurant can seat 80 patrons, with tables to be set up outside too. The interior design was done by Studio A.

imageMarco gave me a copy of their menu. There are seven burger options ranging in price from R75 to R90. They have 200g ‘organic free-range’ beef patties served with sesame seed brioche buns. The ingredient combinations are refreshingly different – the Brooklyn, for example, consisting of fior di latte mozzarella, streaky bacon, avocado, greens, pickled red onion, cucumber, lemon olive oil, and herbs (R90). Fries can be ordered as a side dish. Five salads imagecost R70 – R90, the ingredient combinations being unusual. Pizzas start at R70 for a margherita, and peak at R130 for a Pink Flamingo salmon, mozzarella, rocket, crème fraîche, pickled red onion, herb, salt, and lemon pizza. Meatier options are Prego steak and chicken rolls (R105/R95), 500g seared beef to be shared between two costs R275, while crumbed chicken schnitzel costs R100. Desserts cost R50.

Arcade, corner Bree and Pepper Streets, Cape Town. Phone lines still to be installed. www.arcadecafe.co.za  Twitter: @Arcade_CT  Monday – Wednesday 11h00 – 23h00. Thursday – Saturday 11h00 – 1h00.
