Cape Town has been ranked 9th on the World Best City list 2015 by Travel + Leisure, and 1st in Africa and the Middle East.

Cape Town’s ranking was motivated as follows: ‘Forget everything you thought you knew about Africa. Cape Town is cutting-edge, artsy and buzzing with energy. There are few places in the world where you can exercise your shopping skills (Woodstock’s Neighborgoods (sic) Market on Saturday mornings is the place to go for Afrikaans jerky (i.e. biltong) and silk-and-leather sandals), take off on a safari, or enjoy world-famous cuisine all in one weekend. Atlantic-facing Clifton Beaches are the South Beach of South Africa, known for enormous natural boulders tumbling into the sea, pristine sunbathing conditions and the capoeira dancers that entertain crowds with fire and African drums on Monday nights’!
Cape Town Tourism CEO Enver Duminy expressed his delight at the ranking for Cape Town, putting the city into ‘the global spotlight’ yet again. Not only does the ranking provide a benchmark for Cape Town, but it also allows an evaluation of how Cape Town can be improved upon as a tourist city.
