After 36 months of operating Bistro 13 at Stellenbosch Vineyards, Chef Nic van Wyk today closed down his restaurant, we were informed by a media release earlier today.

We reported on the new Bistro 13, just after its opening in September 2014.

Today’s media statement informed that both Bistro 13 and Stellenbosch Vineyards were ‘wanting to focus on different areas and markets’. Stellenbosch Vineyards is said to ‘continue offering guests a quality food and wine experience in the restaurant space alongside the additional expansion of its new Eatery brand ‘The Bus Stop’, a unique pizza and burger experience’.  

Stellenbosch Vineyards Managing Director Eduan Steynberg thanked Chef Nic and his team for the joint beginning of the journey with the Eatery, and wished them all the best with their new ventures. ‘At Stellenbosch Vineyards, it is our ambition to become a destination of choice for local and international tourists. We are in the process of finalizing the appointment of an experienced manager who will oversee all consumer engagement at our brand home.’  The new Stellenbosch Vineyards Eatery will open on Saturday 18 March. There will be no Eatery operational from Monday until Friday this coming week.

Chef Nic stated that Bistro 13 and the memories that they have created and shared remain close to his heart. He announced that Bistro 13 will not be reopening ‘at this point, the brand remains something I believe in’. 

Chef Nic is currently involved in the running of the Haute Cabriere restaurant, with Chef Westley Muller.

Chef Nic is also involved as a judge in the new KykNET Kokkedoortjie Children’s cooking program, due to be aired next month. He was a judge of the first season of KykNET Kokkedoor.
