Wednesday 16 December 2020, Day 87 of Level 1, Day 266 of Lockdown 😷
Corona Gratitude 🙏
#Grateful for a magnificent Day of Reconciliation public holiday, with barely a breeze, beautiful sunshine, and about 22C; for starting the day with an end of year ‘Champagne’ Breakfast with the Management Committee of the Camps Bay & Clifton Ratepayers Association; for excellent service at The Lawns at The Rotunda, where we had the breakfast, prioritizing my order as I had to leave at 11h00 to meet my Camps Bay Cleaners; for two walks through Camps Bay, surprised about how many police persons were seen in Camps Bay, from zero throughout the rest of the year; for an excellent litter cleaning day with my team; for there being far fewer beachgoers today; for the mask wearing increasing to 50% in Camps Bay, from about 20% prior to the President’s Speech on Monday; for spoiling myself with a Pink G & T at the end of a successful day; for two Discovery Gameboard plays, scoring 450 and 160 Discovery Miles, a total of 610 Miles 👏👏👏; and for being happy and healthy. 🙏💙
Many of you will hold diverse, mainly negative, views about the beaches only being open from 9h00, that mask-wearing at the beach is now mandatory, and that beaches have to be cleared by 18h00. From a beach and beachfront cleaning perspective it was fabulous, as we had our quietist 16th December in two years, in terms of picnickers and beach goers, and my team was on top of it. I feel so proud of them today 🙏💙.
I saw Police Minister Bheki Cele being active in Camps Bay via Social Media, walking along the Beachfront from the police station, on the Beach, with a huge entourage,, wearing masks but not following social distancing. I have never seen so many policemen walking or gathered together in Camps Bay. There were traffic officials present, as well as five Disaster Risk Management vehicles. Five Police vans were parked on the pavement at the taxi rank, and two traffic officials controlled the traffic lights at Pick n Pay to allow a better flow of traffic through Victoria Road. There was no traffic jam through Camps Bay this afternoon. By 18h00 almost everyone was out of the Tidal Pool and off the Beach, not thinking that this could be possible.👏👏👏
Minister Cele has stopped the Camps Bay film shoot, so Alderman J P Smit is threatening a High Court interdict to allow the shoot, a permit having been issued by the City of Cape Town Film Office. The shoot is taking place around the Camps Bay Lifesaving office, so I took some pics there.
I am so sad that Law Enforcement Officer Ivor Ramsay has left us in Camps Bay, and has been moved to Bonteheuwel. 😢😢😢

The Corona Virus Lockdown (Level 5), announced by our President Cyril Ramaphosa earlier to commence on 27 March and to continue until 16 April, subsequently extended to 30 April, lowered to Level 4 from 1 May, lowered to Level 3 from 1 June, lowered to Level 2 from 18 August, and lowered to Level 1 from 21 September, is an unprecedented event in my lifetime. I am posting my daily Facebook post to journal this Corona Lockdown Journey, perhaps to serve as material for a future Book.
