Diners Club announced its three finalists for the 2014 Young Winemaker of the Year today, the 13th year in which the title will be awarded. The winner will be announced at a Gala Dinner at La Residence on 15 November.
The finalists in the category Red Wines, for winemakers under the age of 30 years, are:
* JD Pretorius from Steenberg, based on his 2011 and 2012 Steenberg Merlot, and Steenberg Echo 2012
* Louis van Riet of De Krans Wines, for his De Krans Tinta Roriz
* Reenen Borman at Boschkloof, for his Boschkloof Syrah 2012 and Boschkloof Epilogue 2012.
Diners Club received 75 entries for the 2014 Young Winemaker of the Year award, a significant increase on the number received in 2013, said Dave Hughes, who chaired the judging panel. The winner will receive tickets for two to fly to San Francisco, accommodation, and R25 000 spending money, enabling the winner to visit Napa Valley.
