Corona Gratitude 🙏

#grateful for a warm 24C days, ahead of a day of rain forecast and clouds rolling in; for a calm and peaceful working day; for a walk to Bakoven at lunchtime, and to the Tidal pool late this afternoon, seeing a structure on Camps Bay Beach, intended to represent the dream of a Beach Bar in a TV commercial; for our Day/Night and Garage Door problems fixed today; for Minsky coming back safely early this morning đŸ˜»; and for being happy, healthy and free. 🙏💙 Continue reading →

Eat Out Awards 2018: a refreshing change, knocks old-guard chefs off their multi-restaurant perches!

I could not think it possible that the Eat Out Awards 2018 could be so refreshingly different, but it appears that new Head Judge Margot Janse has created a fresh new look at the restaurant judging criteria. Chef Heston Blumenthal to receive World’s 50 Best Restaurants Diners Club Lifetime Achievement Award!

On 5 April Chef Heston Blumenthal will receive the Diners Club Lifetime Achievement Award at the World’s 50 Best Restaurant Awards in Melbourne, it was announced last week. Chef Heston owns The Fat Duck in Bray, which was at the top of the World’s 50 Best Restaurant list in 2005, and Dinner by Heston Blumenthal at the Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park in London, the 45th World’s Best Restaurant, which I visited for lunch last July. Platter’s South African Wine Guide 2017 awards record number of 5 star wines!

platters_wine_guide_2017A number of records were broken last night when 94 wines and one brandy were awarded 5 star status at the launch of  the Platter’s by Diners Club South African Wine Guide 2017 at the Table Bay Hotel, a new venue, the event having been held at the Mount Nelson for years.
