MasterChef SA Season 4 2022 announces 20 home cook contestants!

#. Episode 13 : One of the most exciting episodes was the visit by Chef Jan-Hendrik van der Westhuizen of Restaurant JAN in Nice, Dr Harri describing him as the Beyoncé of cheffing. Chef Jan-Hendrik set the contestants a number of challenges:

1. mosbolletjie variations on brioches, each with different flavours, the four contestants describing the most accurately receiving immunity for the second test. The flavours were naartjie, cinnamon, Zoo Biscuit, coffee, coriander, Aromat, tamarind, seaweed, biltong, aniseed, masala, and Redro fish paste. Tembisa, Andriette, Charmaine, and Tarryn received immunity.

2.  Braaibroodjie Macarons had to be prepared, as well as a mieliepap tart. Luyanda had to step forward. As she left her acetate in the dish, she had to leave the MasterChef SA kitchen.

#. Episode 14: Ostrich eggs were the ingredient of the episode, the eight remaining contestants having to prepare a Pressure Test Breakfast Canapé Challenge with ostrich egg and ostrich meat being the hero of three of four canapés, 24 canapés having to be made by each contestant. The open pantry and two hours deadline were set for the preparation. The best contestant would go through to the Finals week, Chef Greg announced. Shawn made Scotch egg and ostrich wors.  Sli ran out of time, cooking with quail eggs. Tarryn felt rattled. Shawn stepped forward, with Dr Harri. Shawn’s canapés were praised as being ‘5 star Bushveld Lodge worthy and breakfast appropriate’, and he went straight to Finals Week. Dr Harri was praised too. Four of the contestants did not complete their ostrich challenge and had to step forward: Sli, Tarryn, Tembisa, and Sims, Sli having to go home.

#.  Episode 15:  Offal (Chicken livers, chicken feet, beef heart, lamb kidneys, and beef tongue) at a five star level was the challenge for six of the contestants for this episode, designed to be ‘slow and low’ by Chef Mmabatho Molefe of Emazulwini Restaurant in Cape Town.  The contestants were divided into Red and Blue Teams. The Blue Team’s lamb tails impressed Judge Zola Nene. The Red Team lost the challenge, and had to cook in episode 16. The three Blue Team members Tarryn, Andriette and Sims went straight into Finals Week.

#.  Episode 16:  Lamb chops and pap were on the menu in this episode, introduced by Guest Judge Chef Katlego Mambo. Dr Harri made Arancini with his Masala Lamb chops. Dr Harri had to leave the MasterChef SA kitchen, even though his lamb was praised, but the burnt sauce was his downfall, the sauces being a problem for all three contestants.
