Netflix has developed a reputation for producing exceptional documentaries, and its ‘Chef’s Table’ is the talk of the international restaurant industry. Two seasons of six episodes each have already been launched. Yesterday Chef’s Table Season 3 was launched by Netflix, with a very diverse spectrum of six Chefs and their restaurants featured.
There is no indication as to how the Chef’s Table producers choose the restaurants and chefs they feature, having selected better known chefs in its first two seasons. In Season 3 only two chefs are reasonably well-known, and three restaurants are World’s 50 Best Restaurants. The restaurants and chefs featured in Season 3 are the following:
#. Central Restaurante in Lima in Peru is the best-known of this Season’s restaurants, being ranked 4th best on the World’s 50 Best Restaurant list, and top restaurant in Latin America. Chef Virgilio Martinez trained in London, New York, Bogotá, and Madrid before opening Central eight years ago. Pia is his head chef and wife.
#. Tim Raue Restaurant in Berlin ranks at number 34 on the World’s 50 Best Restaurants list. Chef Tim wanted to be an architect , but couldn’t afford to study, choosing cheffing as a Creative alternative, working in various hotel restaurants until he opened his restaurant seven years ago. His wife Marie-Anne is the Maître d’ and Sommelier. Chef Tim is known for his German and Asian fusion cuisine.
#. Chef Nancy Silverton from Osteria Mozza in Los Angeles is featured, and has a sister restaurant in Singapore. She is described as being obsessed with baking, bread in particular. Chef Nancy did not plan to be a chef.
#. Jeong Kwah is the most unusual inclusion in Season 3, being a Buddhist monk from the Baekyasa Temple in South Korea. Little information is available about her.
#. White Rabbit in Moscow has been steadily climbing up the World’s 50 Best Restaurant list, now at number 18, and is owned by Chef Vladimir Muhkin. Chef Vladimir uses local and seasonal ingredients, and is described as being charismatic. The restaurant offers a 360-degree view of Moscow.
#. Chef Ivan Orkin owns Ivan Ramen in New York. He originally cooked ramen in Tokyo, before returning back home to the Big Apple to open his ramen restaurant.
To see Chef’s Table one needs to subscribe to Netflix. It is well worth the subscription, to see other top quality programs too!
