The Sweet Service Award goes to Pick ‘n Pay Camps Bay and its Manager Gavin Grobler, for his assistance in the purchase of a watermelon. The Garden’s Centre branch, which supplies our grocery requirements, did not have watermelons in stock. I called the Camps Bay store, and received prices for whole and cut watermelons. I told him that I would send my housekeeper Teresa to him, to buy a whole watermelon. Gavin was concerned that the watermelon was too heavy for her to carry, and sent one of his staff to carry it back to our guest house for her. I Tweeted a thank you to Gavin and his branch, which message was passed on to him via their head office, resulting in him calling to thank me. This excellent service came from a branch that has had a terrible service reputation in the past, prior to Gavin heading up the branch.
The Sour Service Award goes to BP President Motors on Regent Road Sea Point, for the rude service from the petrol attendant and the owner Rob Shaw. I had to wait a while for the attendant to come to the car, and he just started filling up, which I had intended. I asked him to clean the windscreen, but he kept holding on to the pump, saying he cannot do two things at the same time. I then asked him to stop at R300, and to call his manager Mr Shaw. When it came to paying, the attendant stopped the transaction, without reason, and burst forth in abuse. Instead of asking me what the problem was, Mr Shaw said I was the first customer in 12 years to complain about their attendant. I had to beg him to take my payment so that I could go, having wasted 30 minutes of my time at the BP service station!
