Saronsberg winery from Tulbagh has been named Top Red Wine Producer of the Year, in the 2016 South African Wine Index (SAWi). It also received recognition for Top Category Rhône Blend for its Saronsberg Full Circle.
Saronsberg excelled in the 2015 SAWi awards too, having been recognised as Winery the Year, as well as Top Red Wine Producer, Best Rhône Style Blend, and Best Viognier. In that year, winemaker Dewaldt Heyns and viticulturist Chris Immelman were named Best in their respective career categories.
‘The SAWi awards, established in 2009, aim to give credit to the wines and farms that consistently do well within the local and international arena. All South African wines are evaluated and given a score derived from a multi-phase algorithm to help wine lovers identify consistent excellence. A unique ‘Algorithm of Excellence’ is applied during the competition to measure the performance of individual wines, across multiple vintages. It then compares and condenses the results from more than 100 multinational competitions, reviews and listings, acknowledging the nature of the competition and any additional accolades bestowed on a wine, and expresses this as a single value out of 100‘, informs the media release which we received via Waterford Communications.
Saronsberg Full Circle, Shiraz, its Provenance range Cabernet Sauvignon/Merlot/Malbec/Petit Verdot, Provenance Range Shiraz, Viognier, and Brut Sparkling Wine Méthode Cap Classique are all part of SAWi’s ‘South African Grand Wines Collection’.
