Cape’s Top 10 Women Chefs of 2021 announced on Women’s Day!

 

Last week we announced that we were seeking nominations for the Cape’s Top 10 Women Chefs, the prize of a bottle of ADHARA Premium Extra Virgin Olive Oil going to each of our top chefs, kindly sponsored by Venishree Mayer, co-owner and olive oil producer of Fraaigelegen Farm in Tulbagh.

We are grateful for the nominations that we have received. We congratulate the Top 10 Women Chefs in the Cape.

We wish all our hard-working Women Chefs as well as our Blog readers a relaxing and happy Women’s Day.

Grateful for a beautiful 17C day, third day in a row, before the rain hits us tomorrow; for a fabulously lucky Discovery Gameboard play, scoring 750 points on one of the two plays, giving me a Woolies voucher, a good omen for the rest of the day; for selling a SwitchBitch book tiday, thank you Gloria 🙏; for a good working day; for a walk to Pick n Pay to buy some essentials, including batteries for my alarm sensors, an expensive exercise; for a Bakoven walk; for Minsky coping well in receiving her annual vaccination, I worrying about her being traumatized by being in a cat carrier for the first time Continue reading →

‘In die Sop: Restaurant Evolusie’ : Chef Bertus Basson transforms Readers Restaurant in Tulbagh and Backyard Café in Wellington!

 

I’ve previously written about Chef Bertus Basson’s new kykNET series ‘In die Sop: RestaurantvEvolusie’, a weekly episode focusing on the transformation of country restaurants in the Western Cape.

The first two restaurants featured were Red Tin Roof in Riebeek Kasteel, owned by the now infamous  journalist Jacques Pauw, and Evita se Perron, now run by owners Hentie van der Merwe and Frits van Reyneveld of Darling Sweet….. in Darling.

In this post I summarise the transformation of Readers Restaurant in Tulbagh and Backyard Café in Wellington.

Corona Gratitude 🙏

#Grateful for a fabulous day, flowing smoothly, with more food indulgence and meeting new and old friends; for getting my work done early this morning; for breakfast at Firefly Café with Judy Lamprecht of Deja Brew in Strand, a member restaurant of my Lockdown Sit-Down, Delivery & Collection Restaurants Cape Town & Winelands Facebook Group, and her husband Michiel; for an energetic walk to Clifton and back, with good cardio, gaining a surprising 500 points; for getting overgrown tree branches from the next door erf cut back today; for a good meeting with a prospective client in Constantia; for a wonderful afternoon spent with Michele Antelme in her beautiful cottage and garden, having fabulous snacks, some Cassis treats, and gin and pink tonic, being unconnected from the Internet, a three hour treat ❤️❤️❤️; and for being happy and healthy. 🙏💙 Continue reading →
