Sundoo Indian Tapas Bar to open this week!

imageWhilst indulging at My Sugar in Sea Point on Saturday, restaurateur and Chef Seelan Sundoo walked in for a coffee fix. He is opening Sundoo Indian Tapas Bar later this week, and showed me his almost-ready restaurant three doors away on Regent Road.

The restaurant space is limited, but will have seating inside, and outside on the pavement at counter tables imagewith bar stools. The tables inside are beautiful, made from grey metal with a wood frame, with matching grey chairs. A Bar Counter still needs to have wallpaper added behind it, plus a bar fridge counter added. Indian-themed murals painted with Japanese ink dominate two walls. Distinctive Indian-design tiles lead the way between the tables and the bar counter. Each table has an individual light above it. Beautiful light fittings have been made from wooden Indian trays lined with gold leaf. Chef Seelan said that an interior designer friend from France came out to Cape Town to do the design.

Two members of staff have been appointed, a lady chef from Durban who specializes in South Indian food, who will make more traditional Durban curry dishes, including Bunny Chow. A male colleague has worked in London, and will make fusion tapas dishes.

Beer will play an important role in the bar offering, a good pairing with Indian foods, Chef Seelan said, with Indian Pale Ale especially. A limited wine list will be on offer.

We look forward to trying Sundoo Indian Tapas Bar this week.
