The Sweet Service Award goes to The Green Goddess and its owner Rosy Krämer-Schrott, producers and distributors of quality herbs and vegetables, for delivering the most sumptuous box of organic vegetables, herbs, and eggs. The box included Happy Eggs, spinach, kale, carrots, baby beetroot, a pumpkin, a butternut, cucumber, green/black peppers, black potatoes, tomatoes, baby marrow, cherry tomatoes, chives, rocket, parsley, and thyme, a gift delivered to me to try.
The Sour Service Award goes to Carne on Kloof, and its owner Chef Giorgio Nava. I was heading to Manna Epicure on a late afternoon last week, having half an hour to kill. The restaurant was closed, so I went next door to Carne on Kloof. I ordered a Tiramisu, delicious, sitting outside and minding my own business. I asked for my bill, gave the waiter a R100 note, and he asked my cheekily how much cash change he should bring me! Then Nava arrived with some deliveries, not seeing me. In my Facebook post I wrote about the change cheek and that Nava did not see me. This resulted in a comment which Nava posted on my Blog in his best Italglish, as follows: ‘dear whale can you please avoid to be naughty and stay away from all my place, as you know you are not welcome, regard, giorgio nava’. Nava despises me for showing him up to be a restaurateur with no marketing morals, documented in my Blog. Nava has closed down three of his five restaurants in the past few months, so it is surprising that he can afford to turn business away.
